Hongirana puts a school's daily admin in one system: student registration, attendance, fees, academic records, report cards, and messages to parents. I built the whole product in ten weeks. It now manages 1,000+ students and 90+ staff, has turned about an hour of daily manual attendance work into an automatic process, automated fee tracking, and sends 6,000+ notifications a month by SMS, email, and WhatsApp.

A school runs on dozens of connected tasks: admissions, parent details, daily attendance, fees, marks, report cards, and notices. When each one lives in a different register or spreadsheet, simple questions (has this student paid? how often were they absent?) take real time to answer.
Hongirana needed one system where every task works from the same student record, and where each person sees only what their job needs.
Everything is built around a single student profile. Registration creates it, with parent or guardian details. Attendance, fees, academic records, and report cards all attach to it. Nothing needs to be copied between systems, so nothing falls out of sync.

Attendance happens every day, so it has to be quick. Teachers mark it from any device, and it goes straight onto each student's record. Administrators can then review attendance over time instead of counting paper registers. The daily hour of manual attendance admin is now automatic, and fee tracking went from manual records to the same automatic flow.
Administrators manage the whole school. Teachers work with their own classes. Other staff see only the tasks they're responsible for. Access is enforced by the system, not by trust, so sensitive information like fees and personal details stays with the people who should see it.
Parents don't log into a school dashboard. Important notices, announcements, and updates go out by SMS, email, or WhatsApp, straight from the platform, so staff don't need a separate tool to reach families. The school now sends 6,000+ notifications a month this way.

At minimum: student registration and profiles, daily attendance, fee tracking, academic records and report cards, announcements, and role-based access for staff. Parent notifications by SMS, email, or WhatsApp matter more than a parent portal, because parents rarely log in.
Buy one if an existing product fits how your school works and the price is fair. Build custom when your fee structure, admissions, or reporting don't fit standard tools, or when you want to own the system and its data rather than rent it.
Require login for everyone, give each role only the access it needs, and keep sensitive data like fees and personal details behind the right permissions. Regular backups and keeping software up to date matter just as much.
